Without a Clue, 4/5
Without a Clue is a movie that I would never have heard of if it hadn’t been for a friend of mine who has been recommending it to me for years.
The premise of this story is that Dr. Watson (Ben Kingsley) is a brilliant crime-solver, however, in order to keep his position in society, he has hired a drunken actor to play the real detective. Thus he creates the character of Sherlock Holmes (Michael Caine). The two solve crimes with a good amount of personal tension, until Watson is killed and Holmes must bumble along alone in order to find and apprehend Moriarty.
This is a solid movie with a number of very good lines. The premise is quite original and the writers and actors take it to the hilt. Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine are both fantastic actors in their own right and when they are playing against each other they are even better. I found towards the ending it started to drag some, however it picked itself up again and finished strong.
This is a straightforward movie once you get past the initial twist.
Overall: 4 out of 5, I really liked it. A solid movie that is worth watching, though I think that it would lose some its shine in a second or third viewing.
